Chip chip hooray!

This afternoon Matt and I went to our friend Django's house to do a session at his studio Love Drunk. Django is an awesome dude who not only is doing this sweet project with us, he also fronts Down with the Ship and play part-time mandolin in Midwest Dilemma.

We had been talking about doing a video for some time and we're glad to have finally done it! After some cookies, Winchell's donuts, and pizza, we did a performance "Summer of Love." We did an acoustic version with just me and Matt since Robert got caught up at work. We will get together again and do something with the full band with loud noises, an interview maybe... possibly some slam-dunking? Who knows... stay tuned.

First night of tour complete.

Hello,
Minneapolis is awesome. Last night we played a very fun house show. Thanks to Jackie and everyone else at the The Forest of Solid Dudes (working title).
Today we ate lunch at Midtown Global Market. Robert had a gyro and some falafel. Sara had pho with beef and I had teriyaki chicken. All of it was very yummy, plus there was a jazz trio playing in the dining area. From there we went to Encore Music Shop and saw some sweet guitars and other items out of our price range. Same story at Twin Towns Guitars down the street. At least I got to play a $3000 Hiwatt and a Hagstrom Viking. Both were everything I'd hoped they'd be. Sara played a Musicmaster that had a Jazzmaster pickup in the bridge; it was a treat. We drove around and saw some of the city before landing at Sauce Spirit and Sound Bar, the club we will play tonight. Should be a fun show followed by a night of utter debauchery involving hair mayonnaise (a real item we found at a family dollar here).
Next stop is Madison, Wisconsin.
Tour is neat.

Little coats.

little coats is a song about toys, but also growing up.
my mom upset about barbies without clothes
and me dreading about church.

i remember the day i stopped playing with my toys. i was in 6th grade and i put my favorite toy (adult Simba from The Lion King) in this neon pink and yellow bag. i never opened it again :(

i dressed up as superman once.

Consider it invaded.

played lincoln last night and it was a blast. i had never been to duffy's tavern before, but it was the people were nice and i thought it had good sound. our bass amp is usually pretty terrible, but sounded very full and boomy last night. everyone we played with rocked. conchance and his stepchildren, little brazil, and capgun coup. i made it over to the bourbon theatre across the street a couple of times to see talking mountain and honeybee play! doubly awesome.

we also took a break around midnight and ate at lazzari's pizza. i ate a pepperoni slice.

probably the best time i've ever had in lincoln. not since ten years ago, when i played my first show ever. haha. i was a freshman in high school and we got second place in a battle of the bands! we lost to straight outta junior high. ah, well.

anyways, yes. lincoln, you were fun.

p.s. i tried to go to dietze downtown, but they got rid of all their electric guitars and put it at the other location!
wack.

Ho-hum.

hmm, nothing new to report really. h&d did not have band practice this week, our roommate was going to have a d&d sesh at the house and we decided to reschedule for sunday. matt and i and also our friend jakob went to go see how to train your dragon in 3D that very night. well done, dreamworks. it was a cute movie. i felt like i was flying! the main dragon makes me think of stitch from lilo & stitch.

that's about it. our first shows of the year are coming up.
see you there!

p.s. where is the good weather? so chilly.
i hope you are out celebrating record store day as well as earth day.

Saturday, March 27, 2010

Good morning.

welcome to the honey & darling blog. it will mostly be updated by me, sara, but i will get the boys to write stuff from time to time (maybe). i'll write weekly about what the band is up to. mischief and cupcakes. get excited.

our last show of 2009 was a few days after christmas, opening up for the faint. we were honored to share the waiting room stage with them. It was the first show we played that sold out. pretty exciting.

we've been spent all the time so far of 2010 writing new songs. we have about half an album's worth of new material. with some of our old songs that didn't make it onto the ep, i think we can record that full-length this year. we are playing our first show with cowboy indian bear and ghosty (both from lawrence, ks) at slowdown on April 29th. I hope you can make it! we're also planning our (first) summer tour in the midwest for late june/early july.

besides all that excitement, we rearranged our practice space. (we got a new projector and needed a place for it.) we needed a couch or futon in that room anyway, so it worked out quite nice. have a look.

see you soon!
